Oil of Life Pure Flaxseed Oil is organic and gently pressed at low temperatures. Flaxseed is an herbal remedy. Botanists know flaxseed as Linum usitatissimum. The plant is used in the production of linen fibre, flaxseed oil and linoleum. It has had a wide diffusion as foodstuff. In ancient Greece and Rome, flax seeds where a common ingredient used in bread making. In Antiquity they also knew of the medicinal abilities of the flaxseed. In the first century AD the roman scholar and natural scientist Pliny the Elder mentions about 30 medical preparations with flaxseed and many of these can be confirmed by today’s modern science. Flaxseeds contain 25 percent fat according to weight, which equals more than 60 percent of their total calorie content. But the oil that it contains in the seeds is mainly the best of its kind because it contains 55 percent unsaturated Omega3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). This is an essential fatty acid and a precursor to hormones like components called prostaglandins, which regulates many body functions, including the immune defence system, platelet activation and blood pressure. The German Senior Physician Dr. Johanna Budwig has written books on flaxseed and their beneficial effects on the health and wellbeing. Flaxseed oxidises very quickly (shall be used fast), especially at high temperatures. Always keep this oil refrigerated.
“The Flax Council of Canada” is a national organization, which promotes Canadian flax and flax products for nutritional and industrial purposes. They have written a book on flaxseeds, look at www.flaxcouncil.ca
